Chapter four:"DATE LA BUENA VIDA."

Everyday we try to live life fully, but I not sure about this.Sometimes we think or we consider some things important for the time being, for example materal things. We spend life trying to be a successful person or working in order to have money. But we forget the idea of sharing,we have to live slowly and think about the importance of being ourself. And as teachers we should forget that teacher is just a "job"and we have to start thinking that we need to guide our students so we can enjoy our "job."we need to find out our students' needs! that's all!

In concrete examples, Marucha, when are you "yourself"? And what would "being successful" mean to you in particular?

Eager to know,
Gladys

Gladys,
You know, I'm not sure. This year the idea of being succesful has come to my mind several times.I would like to write something more personal about this chapter but I'm afraid I feel very dissapointed about my life.Maybe next time I can tell oyu more about this.

Let me share my definition of "success" with you, Marucha: to succeed means ... mmm... too difficult to discuss in the abstract, but I can say each day I feel I've been successful at living that day if I've managed to do one thing a little more coherently with whom I'd like to be than the day before... One step at a time, you know...

Now here's a nice definition I've found browsing on the Web: "SUCCESS IS WHEN WE UNDERSTAND THAT REALITY IS DEPENDENT ON PERCEPTION, AND THEN CHOOSE THE REALITY WE WISH TO PERCEIVE."

More "definitions" here.

Hope you feel cheerful once again soon. You've been doing great things lately, and it'd be a pity if you couldn't enjoy your "success". ;-)

LOL,
Gladys

When am I myself?
I think what Savater tries to convey in this chapter has to do with our ¨freedom¨and our ¨responsibility as regards freedom.¨ What I am able to reflect upon this , is learning to live the best we can, taking our time to take decisions and building self'-confidence so as to feel satisfied with the things we choose and with what we decide to do with our lives. As Savater explains, this does not mean ¨doing the first thing that comes to our minds¨but thinking very well before deciding on the different options we come across.
I think success has to do with rying to do my best day by day .
Hugs

Thanks for your clear reply, Marucha!
Clear ideas, well written and organized (IMHO).
Reading your blog has helped me think about me and my own teaching a lot, you know?
Warmly,
Gladys
